Henry Hudson

June 1611

In 1610 England hired Hudson to find the Northwest passage.  Hudson sailed to Northern Canada in a ship called Discovery.  He was sure he had found the Northwest Passage when he discovered a 450 mile log passage way.  A passageway later called Hudson Straight, led to a large bay now called Hudson Bay.  Hudson kept searching for a water route to the Pacific Ocean.  The bay froze over when the winter set in.    Their ship froze in the ice, he and his crew had a long winter in a log hut. In June, 1611 after the weather warmed he set sail.  His crew thinking he was going back home soon realized he was sailing west to keep searching or the Northwest Passage.  Wanting desperately to go home the angry crew put Hudson, his son and 7 other loyal crewman into a small boat with no oars and left them in the bay.  Hudson and others were never heard from again.   I think Hudson and the 7 other men died of starvation and when they died their boat tipped and no one ever found their bodies.  What do you think happened?
